"Two Women"

"Buttons 1"

This is a 6x8 canvas board painted with acrylic paint, then covered using the torn paper method. I used photo-copies of old newspaper articles and vintage scrapbooking paper. The photo was one of those happy accidents. I meant to do a photo transfer using a blender pen onto the torn paper background but it didn't work because of the rough texture. Instead, acrylic paint and text from the background created a lovely vintage look on the photo being transferred so I cut it out and used it instead. The date is a photocopy taken directly from writing on the photo. I used gel medium to attach the vintage buttons.

"Connie"

This collage of my Aunt Connie was done on 5x7 stretched canvas. The background was made from torn pieces of an old German book and painted over with an acrylic wash. Once again, I had a blender pen mishap. The transfer onto the canvas failed because of the background being too rough. The photocopy being transferred ended up with a great vintage-looking sheen of yellow ochre, although it's hard to see here. I lightly sanded the photo to remove areas of heavy acrylics, cut it out, and glued it to the canvas using gel medium. I used black water soluble oil pastels to give definition around the face and neck. Color was added with water soluble oil pastels. I am beginning to like this blender pen mistake I seem to make over and over. I think I might just use it in future work.
